ADULT YOGA

Combining a world-renown exercise method with associated meditation, this program is both challenging and satisfying for adults.  The movements will promote a healthy lifestyle that you will find beneficial and fulfilling.

 PILATES

Concentrating on core body exercises to gain strength and flexibility, this program allows the student to build and maintain muscle group fitness.

TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS

MUAY THAI

Known throughout the world as the original kickboxing martial art, muay thai is a strong cross between striking and kicking.  Using boxing moves with powerful kicks, this program will bring sweat and fun into anyone’s fitness style.

 SHINBU AIKIDO

If you want a martial art that combines movement with aggressive self-defense, then Shinbu Aikido should merit your consideration.  This art teaches students to be in harmony with their attackers.  Jo, or the short staff, is part of this martial art.

 JUDO

One of the first traditional martial arts to become an Olympic sport, judo is the modern offspring of ancient Japanese Ju-Jutsu.  Throws, chokes, ground fighting, and arm locks; this art is guaranteed to give you a strong workout and increase your cardio ability.

AKAYAMA RYU JU-JUTSU

“Red Mountain Style” Ju-Jutsu is derived from the ancient Japanese battle skills and modified to meet today’s standards for soldiers, law enforcement officers, and civilians.  Taught as a traditional martial art, this program provides a great general workout while providing devastating control techniques for street confrontations.  The yawara, short staff, is used in this martial art.

 MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)

The latest martial sport to gain worldwide followers, MMA combines strikes, joint locks, and ground fighting as submission tools to win a contest.  A PRE-REQUISITE OF PRIOR MARTIAL ARTS KNOWLEDGE IS REQUESTED.

THE STREETSAFE SEMINARS

 CRIMINALSAFE - TACTICAL FIREARMS TRAINING

Learn to use a firearm in defense of your residence by a retired federal law enforcement officer and counter-terrorist operative.  Topics include clearing a residence while looking for a suspected intruder, the use of flashlights in a tactical combat firearms system, non-lethal force and weapons, and legal ramifications.  This course is comprised of five different 4 hour seminars (you may pick any or all to take after completion of Phase I) held at different times.  Each seminar or Phase is $100.  Please call Ed Byers-Sensei at 704-650-2235 for additional information.

BLADESAFE

Originally developed for a group of Charlotte-based counter-terrorist operatives, this expanded program teaches effective knife fighting skills to be used in personal defense.  Using KA-BAR’s TDI knife (included in the cost of the course), the student learns strategy, stances, and combat considerations in this three-hour course.

KEYSAFE

Using the age old Japanese weapon of yawara, this three-hour course relies on small plastic batons (included in the cost of the course) that are attached to key rings and easily carried anywhere.  Pressure points and bone pressure techniques are used for effective escapes and pain compliance situations.

PEPPERSAFE

With the recent improvements in pepper spray (OC spray), this three-hour course teaches the student how to recognize an impending attack and how/when to deploy an improved product of pepper spray.  Legal considerations and other aspects of carrying this police-grade (not available to the public) non-lethal weapon are considered.

BATONSAFE

Using police-grade expandable batons deployed in both the open and closed position, this three-hour class is focused on civilian use and legal justification of a metal expandable baton for personal defense.  The baton is included in the cost of the course.

THE CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

SAMURAI MOUNTAIN

Designed to be part entertainment and part target hardening of children, this program is based on a 45 minute class, three times per week, for children ages 6 to 13.  The program’s focus will be on socialization skills with others (both adults and children), basic motor skill development, character development, and martial art skills.  Samurai Mountain will be a true martial arts class with internationally-recognized belts coming from Akayama Ryu Ju-Jutsu.
